ToggleThe CLC metallisation process enables you to achieve a high-quality, reflective chrome finish on a wide variety of surfaces. To ensure that the process runs smoothly and you achieve the best results, we have compiled a clear overview of the individual steps for you. Follow the instructions carefully and enjoy the brilliant effects that are only possible with precise preparation and workmanship.
1. Surface preparation:
First apply a 2K single-component paint to the object to be treated in order to create a smooth base.
2. Sanding:
Once dry, sand the paint with wet sandpaper (1200 grit) to achieve a completely smooth surface.
3. Cleaning:
Clean the object thoroughly so that no dust or dirt particles interfere with the metallisation.
4. Masking:
Cover areas that are not to be chrome-plated.
Primer application:
Mix the CLC 2K primer in a ratio of 100:15:30/50 and spray 1–2 thin coats onto the object.
5. Drying:
Allow the primer to dry for about 90 minutes at 60 °C and then leave it to rest overnight.
⚠️ From now on, the painted surface must not be touched with your fingers.
1. Dust removal:
Rinse the object with fully deionised (demi) water to remove dust and dirt.
2. Apply activator:
Wet the surface evenly with the CLC activator.
Note: The activator must be aged for at least 72 hours, otherwise optimal wetting will not occur.
3. Rinse off the activator:
Rinse the surface again with fully deionised water to remove excess activator.
4. Metallisation:
Apply the CLC metallisation solution.
5. Rinse:
Rinse off excess metal solution with fully demineralised water.
Cleaning the surface (except for Holoprint):
Spray the metal surface with CLC cleaner and leave it to work for 60–90 seconds. Then clean again with fully demineralised water.
6. Drying:
Blow the surface dry evenly.
7. Post-drying:
Dry the object for 20 minutes at 30 °C.
8. Preservation and colour glaze:
Lightly mist the 1-K CLC preservation varnish onto the object, mix in the desired colour glaze to determine the shade. After the drying time, spray on a rich layer.
9. Top coat application:
Spray on two coats of 2K top coat and leave to dry overnight at room temperature. Alternatively, you can dry it in a drying cabinet – stay 20 °C below the base coat drying temperature.
This carefully structured workflow ensures a durable, shiny and professional chrome plating result with the CLC system. Precision, cleanliness and adherence to the times are the keys to success.
