Even small sources of error can lead to unsightly results such as discolouration, dull spots or stains. To help you achieve the best results, we have compiled a list of the most common causes of problems – including practical tips on how to avoid them.
Fully desalinated water with a purity value of at least 2 µS/cm (or 1 MΩ·cm) is essential for all work steps.
💡 Tip: Ensure absolute cleanliness when filling and measure the conductivity regularly with a suitable measuring device.
🔴 Consequences of poor water quality: Yellowish or dirty chrome surfaces – especially after applying protective lacquer.
A primer that has not completely cured often causes problems after the protective coating has been applied.
The result: the shiny metal layer loses its brilliance and becomes dull.
✅ Solution: Ensure sufficient drying – using heat if necessary – and make sure the viscosity is set correctly.
Even the smallest impurities on the substrate can significantly interfere with or even prevent metallisation.
This can lead to staining in the chrome film.
